I feel like 18-22 was such a molding period for me. When I look back at myself through this time I see a lot of guilt, embarrassment, and self-destruction. I wasn’t the best friend to have, person to date, or the best employee. Some of our mistakes are very easy to forget. A simple apology is sometimes a quick fix. Some of our mistakes we are still paying for and some of them hurt more than just ourselves, they hurt others along the way. The bible may appear like a set of rules, but what I see is actually a bunch of warning signs. The things God is saying don’t do, are all the things that could bring the feelings of guilt and shame. When I tell Lilah, “No” it’s not because I’m trying to keep her from having fun, it’s because I’m trying to protect her from getting hurt or possibly turning into a person that no one wants to be around. Being a parent requires a lot of patience and grace. Thankfully just like we have patience and grace for our children, God has the same patience and grace for us.
