Teething can be a hard experience for both baby and mama. A grumpy babe can make for a very long day! I don’t blame them one bit for being in a bad mood though and I think that is something you have to remind yourself constantly. They are hurting and they really don’t understand why.
Find go-to soothers. After Tylenol and Orajel my first thought to help calm Cali down is finding her a blanket and a pacifier. This really does help and sometimes that’s all she really needs. On the days that these don’t work, sometimes she just needs some extra mama snuggles! It’s hard when she is being extra clingy and I feel like I need to be getting stuff done around the house. All that can wait though and the best thing to do is enjoy some extra cuddles!
Plan things that will help distract them. My kids love being outside of the house or going to play with other kids. I see the worst of teething when the kids are stuck in the house all day. It’s amazing how a little outing might save you from a couple of hours of grumpiness.
Find support. When you are having a hard time it’s ok to vent. You probably need to. Even though your husband or friends might not be able to give you a solution, they can offer support. Sometimes all you need to hear is, “you are doing a great job and it will pass.”
Let them sleep. Try to make sure they are getting their scheduled naps and going down for bedtime at a regular hour. It’s amazing how a good sleep routine will help minimize a cranky babe.
Stay organized. I know this might sound random, but trust me! Have a planner on your kitchen counter to keep up with when you have given your little one Tylenol and have a basket set aside that has good teething toys in it. I seriously don’t know how, but I lose pacifiers like crazy! I should probably invest in one of those clips that keep the paci attached to them! I think that would help so much! Anything that is going to help keep you organized will keep you from feeling overwhelmed!
