Motherhood is a series of ever-changing phases. Sometimes our jeans are too tight, our skin doesn’t look right, and keeping the house in order is a thing of the past. Sometimes the kids are sweethearts and other times they are like giving a cat a bath. We go from the baby phase and then before you know it you are in full-blown toddler phase.
Then one day you wake up and all the cardio finally pays off. You go down a size in jeans. All the hormones finally balance out and you no longer feel like a pizza face. Your baby starts sleeping through the night, giving you all that energy you need to have your clean happy home again. Your toddler finally starts comprehending what no means, maybe like the 3rd time you say it, but hey baby steps!
Nothing magically happens though. You can’t snap your fingers and your baby’s diaper is magically changed. YOU have to put the work in for your baby to have a clean fresh diaper. You catching my drift?
Being a Mom is hard work. There really isn’t a lot of “you time” anymore or “alone time.” It’s draining, I know. You have to get over the fact that some days are hard, sometimes your kids are annoying, and sometimes you feel like you just need an emergency sitter on speed dial. You are not alone on that, trust me!
I think you have to mentally prepare yourself everyday for the chaos. Do you have a clingy kid? A picky eater? Siblings who argue all day? A kid who whines for everything? Whatever the phase you are going through take the time to educate yourself and learn how to fix the problem or at least help make it better until they move out of the phase. It’s your job as a parent to teach your kid how to cope with emotions.
Instead of getting annoyed that your kid isn’t doing what you ask, stop and remember it’s your job to teach them. You don’t get abs by eating like crap and never working out. You have to work for it. So don’t expect your kids to magically change into a well-mannered citizen over night. You have to work for it.
